When
you’re homeless, doing something as simple as brushing
your teeth, shaving or washing your hair is a challenge.
Think about it. How can you afford toothpaste, shampoo and
soap when you don’t even have enough money for a cup
of coffee?
Even if you had toiletries, how do you brush your teeth
before bed when you don’t have a sink or a bed? How
do you shower every morning when you live under a bridge,
in an abandoned building or in the train station?
When men, women and children who are homeless catch a glimpse
of themselves in the mirror, they are often disheartened
by what they see. Unkempt hair. a dirty face. So one of
the many ways we minister to the homeless who come to Goodwill
rescue Mission is by giving them Hope Totes filled with
personal care items.“
Hope Totes are filled with the everyday things we take
for granted, like deodorant and toothbrushes,” says
rev. Kenneth Thomas, program director. “This may seem
like an insignificant thing to us, but for a homeless person,
a gift of a Hope Tote is a gift of dignity and self-respect.”
Can
you join us in this front-line ministry by collecting
items to f ill the totes?
A Hope Tote drive is the per fect project for your
school, of f ice, church or house of worship, civic
