Compassionate Care

Since 1896 Goodwill Rescue Mission has met the short-term, emergency needs of the hurting and homeless of Newark and Essex County caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds.

Because we know that a simple act of kindness can be the first step toward a transformed life, we try to meet each need of those who come to Goodwill Rescue Mission. Guests can receive compassionate care and practical expressions of God’s love — no questions asked, free of charge.

Every meal at Goodwill Rescue Mission comes with a smile, friendship, and hope for a new life.

Our staff works with our guests to learn about their specific situation, helping them to determine the best course of action for life improvement.

Evening Chapel Services provide an opportunity to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of everyone who enters our doors. To that end, the Mission conducts chapel service with the help of our church partners, Monday – Friday at 5:00pm for all our guests to attend. Each service lasts approximately 45 minutes and consists of praise and worship, prayer, and an inspirational message.

Goodwill Rescue Mission is working to meet the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbors in need in Newark and northern New Jersey. Just as arriving at a point of real hunger and homelessness didn’t happen overnight, the path to recovery and self-sufficiency takes time, courage and much effort from our guests. Your gifts provide practical care to neighbors experiencing homelessness, poverty and other crises, and invite them to dare to hope for a life of dignity, productivity and independence.
